This is an outstanding set of releases from one of the qualitative leaders in Montepulciano. In particular readers should not pass up an opportunity to taste the estate’s exceptional Vin Santos from the 1995 vintage which fully capture the meaning of the expression vino da meditazione that is often used to describe sweet wines. Avignonesi’s mid-weight 2004 Rosso di Montepulciano (40% Prugnolo Gentile, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon and 30% Merlot) is a fresh, accessible red with clean, focused fruit and lovely overall balance.
