The 1990 red Chateauneuf du Pape from proprietor Charles Mathieu is a jammy, spicy, richly fruity wine with soft tannins, fleshy quantities of glycerin, formidable alcohol, low acid, and an element of sur-maturite. It exhibits explosive cherry aromas, and a powerful combination of chewy fruit, alcohol, and tannin. I would opt for drinking this soft, low acid wine over the next 7-10 years. No known American importer.
