The 2001 Chianti Classico, dark in color with expressive raspberry/cherry fruit and vibrant, fresh, persistent flavors is quite convincing, and will provide pleasurable drinking until 2008.
The Farkas family’s Villa Cafaggio estate was the first to put Panzano, previously considered nothing more than an unimportant hamlet, on the map. The subsequent arrival of Castello dei Rampolla, Fontodi, and many others have consolidated the reputation of this part of Chianti Classico, but the memory of the 1971 Chianti Classico Riserva of this house lingers in the mind of those who had the good fortune to taste it. The wines have further improved in recent years thanks to the efforts of Stefano Farkas and Stefano Chioccioli, and this is a strong lineup.
