The 2007 Aglianico del Taburno Fidelis flows across the palate with layers of dark fruit, spices, leather and licorice. It is a surprisingly seamless, round Aglianico (in relative terms) that offers gorgeous balance and plenty of harmony at its level. Varietal typicity takes a little bit of a backseat here, but that is not necessarily a bad thing for a wine that can serve as an entry point for readers who aren't yet familiar with Aglianico. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2015.
This is a gorgeous set of wines from Cantina del Taburno that offer remarkable value. Unfortunately none of the estate's higher end wines were available at the time of my tastings.
