The compelling 2004 Willow Creek Cuvee is a 400-case blend of 60% Grenache, and equal parts Syrah and Mourvedre fashioned from both the Denner and James Berry Vineyards, two sites with limestone-dominated soils, a rarity in California. I tasted both screw cap and cork-finished bottles, and noted little difference between the two bottlings. This is a beautiful sweet cherry, spicy, exotic, flamboyantly aromatic offering with a deep ruby/purple-tinged color as well as elegant yet substantial, fresh, vibrant, long, intense flavors. It admirably demonstrates the freshness and lift limestone soils can give to wines of considerable ripeness and intensity. Enjoy this outstanding 2004 over the next 6-8 years.
