From the James Berry and Denner vineyards, the 2006 Willow Creek Cuvee is a blend of 60% Grenache, 20% Syrah, and 20% Mourvedre. Another outstanding effort from this small boutique operation, it reveals a dark ruby/purple color as well as a sexy nose of red and black fruits intermixed with licorice, tar, and meat scents. The wine is lush, opulent, medium to full-bodied, delicious, and disarming. Drink it over the next 2-3 years.
One of my favorite wineries from Paso Robles is Villa Creek Cellars, which fashions innovative Rhone Ranger blends that taste great and, for the most part, are fairly priced.
