The estate’s 2005 Taurasi is a big, stern wine loaded with dark red cherries, game, licorice, incense and tobacco. Over time, layers of sweet, perfumed fruit begin to emerge. Although quite pretty, the 2005 is a relatively straightforward wine with good complexity and juiciness, yet it doesn’t appear to have the structure or pure pedigree to be a super long-term wine. The firmness of Aglianico remains, but overall this is a relatively fruity style of Taurasi. Deceptively medium in body, the 2005 nevertheless possesses gorgeous density and sheer power. It can be enjoyed today or cellared for at least a few years. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2022.
