Rose petal and sage flower scents from the Weinbach 2006 Gewurztraminer Furstentum Vendange Tardive put me in mind of a fulsome Scheurebe, while the oily palate pours on quince preserves, litchi, candied pineapple, and black licorice backed by almost overwhelming sweetness. There is a smoky aura throughout as a reminder of the botrytis and a faint hint of heat. This formidable wine seems to me likely neither to attain a state of gracefulness nor to age for long enough that one could anticipate significant reduction in its sense of sweetness. I would serve it over the coming decade. This year, Domaine Weinbach will receive its official certification as organic and biodynamic growers. The Fallers did well in the difficult 2006 vintage - especially with those Gewurztraminer harvested before botrytis gained the upper hand - and with good reason expressed elation over the vibrancy and refinement that characterizes most of 2007s.Importer: Vineyard Brands, Birmingham, AL; tel.
