Showing more fruit than the classic cuvee, the 2006 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Vieilles Vignes checks in as a completely destemmed blend of 80% Grenache and 20% Mourvèdre; it was brought up 60% in smaller barrels and 40% in concrete tanks. Concentrated, full-bodied, ripe and textured, it offers lots of saddle leather, garrigue, currants and peppered meats in a classic, old school style. It’s drinking at point today, but will hold for 6-7 years.
