The 2005 Taurasi Fatica Contadina is wonderfully expressive on the nose. Sweet scents of tobacco, rosemary, cedar, spices, worn-in leather and licorice lead to a textured, layered core of fruit. This shows lovely inner sweetness and perfume. The silkiest of tannins frame an impeccably, polished finish. Structurally this isn't a huge Taurasi, but it appears to have enough freshness to drink well for a number of years. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2025.
Terredora Di Paolo is one of the leading estates in Campania. This is a superb set of releases, with many excellent choices at all price ranges. Unfortunately I was not able to taste the 2009 Lacryma Christi del Vesuvio Rosso or the 2005 Taurasi Campore, as the estate thought those wines needed further bottle age.
