The inexpensive 2002 Mestizaje is a blend of 50% Bobal with the rest Tempranillo, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Merlot, and Grenache. Bottled without fining or filtration, this tasty, inky/purple-colored 2002 is a bit monolithic, offering notes of road tar, candied black fruits, graphite, and a touch of balsamic vinegar. Medium to full-bodied, soft, and oozing with fruit, I’m not sure it will develop additional complexity, but it is a delicious wine as well as an excellent value.Importer: Eric Solomon, European Cellars, Charlotte, NC; tel.
