The ruby-colored Volnay Clos de la Cave displays a strawberry and cherry-scented nose as well as a silky, light-to-medium-bodied, elegant core of raspberries, currants, and minerals. It should also be drunk over the next 4 years.
Yields were high in 1996, on average 45 hectoliters/hectare or more according to Bouley. The wines are fined and filtered (though exceptions are made for the premier crus that don't "need" filtration). My impression is that these wines should be drunk early.
