The 2010 Brunello di Montalcino Vigna del Lago is a very linear and tight red wine with a great sense of focus and direct intensity. The wine is not labeled Riserva, but it is aged for one additional year compared to a Brunello annata. Bright berry and dried fruit aromas are followed by very etched mineral notes with dusty graphite and dried spice. I tasted this wine after the bottle had been opened for a day and those distinctive aromas of crushed granite appeared even more evident. This is a lovely wine that underlines the austere and powerful side of this classic vintage.
