With fruit from the northern half of the appellation, the 2011 Brunello di Montalcino Vigna del Lago shows bold lines and bright aromatic intensity. Unlike the other two single-vineyard expressions (Vigna Spuntali and Poggio al Granchio), this Brunello is aged in large oak barrel made from Slavonian oak. Among the new releases from Val di Suga, this one will resonate most with Brunello purists and traditionalists. The bouquet offers a greater degree of focus and delineation with pressed flowers, red currant, underbrush and licorice. The wine is streamlined and tight in the mouth with a fine and polished tannic structure.
