The 2006 Nebbiolo d’Alba is stunning. It possesses breathtaking integrity in its fruit, showing superb detail and finesse in an utterly engaging style. The oak is beautifully integrated and the tannins show remarkable elegance. Roero was once known as a source for inexpensive Nebbiolo fruit which producers in Barolo and Barbaresco of previous generations bought to supplement their other grapes. This wine shows why that was the case. This medium to full-bodied Nebbiolo is easily the most impressive wine I tasted from Roero this year. It is awesome. Anticipated maturity: 2008-2016.
I can’t say enough good things about the wines of Hilberg-Pasquero, a small estate located in the Roero. While I have always enjoyed the wines, this set of releases is off the charts.
