Sadly, there are only 120 cases of the 2005 Viognier Lia, one of the finest Viogniers I have tasted from California’s North Coast. Aging on its lees for 11 months, and no malolactic fermentation have resulted in a bone dry, full-bodied white with loads of acidity as well as litchi nut, apricot, and other tropical fruit characteristics. Revealing restraint, complexity, and length, it should drink well for 2-4 years.
As I said last year, DuMol is one of my favorite wineries, primarily because of the passion and commitment to quality of owner Kerry Murphy and his winemaker, Andy Smith.
