An excellent estate, Villa Cafaggio fashioned four impressive wines in 1990. The 1990 Solatio Basilica, from several small vineyards planted with Sangiovese, reveals a deeper color than the 1990 Chianti Classico as well as more sweetness and ripeness. Although similar to the Chianti Classico, it is deeper, fuller, and riper. It shares the rich, black-cherry fragrance and sweetness of fruit offered by the estate's Chianti, but the Solatio Basilica is higher in alcohol and more influenced by barrique aging. It is an example of an exceptionally elegant yet immensely pleasing, seductive wine. Drink it over the next 5-7 years.
These four offerings are impressive! Importer: F.W.I. (Fine Wines International), Rutherford, NJ.
