The 2005 Gran Reserva was sourced from vines over 60 years of age and aged for 24 months in French oak. A glass-coating opaque purple color (in the style of the large-scaled 2005 vintage), it offers up a fragrant perfume of exotic spices, lavender, incense, tapenade, licorice, and blackberry. Plush on the palate with plenty of underlying structure, this loaded effort will benefit from another 4-5 years of cellaring and provide optimum drinking from 2016 to 2025+.
Vina Pilar is essentially the second label of Callejo made from the estate's younger Tinto Fino (Tempranillo) vines.
