According to Daniel Wagner, "2005 was similar to 2003 yet with more rainfalls, in particular shortly before the harvest. It was our first vintage without herbicides and we harvested super ripe grapes with high must weights but very low yields. An unforgettable vintage with [raisiny] grapes."
After a very warm summer and heavy rainfalls just before the harvest, the intensely yellow-colored 2005 Heerkretz Riesling GG shows a very clear, intense and elegant, very aromatic but still fine and mineral bouquet of ripe and spicy lemons, grapefruits and stone fruits, with heavy iodine notes. Picked in just five days (October 13–18), this is a mouthfilling, generous, saline and savory Riesling with fine but vivacious acidity, good intensity and a long, tensioned finish. Powerful yet pure and salivating, this is another stunner of the vertical held at the domaine in late August 2023. 13.5% stated alcohol plus 8.5 grams per liter of residual sugar. Natural cork. Tasted from magnum.
