The 2006 Heerkretz Riesling GG exhibits a golden-yellow color and offers a generous, rather classical bouquet with ripe and overripe stone fruit aromas intertwined with the fine and savory notes of the Heerkretz terroir as well as pencil shaving notes. Lush, round and elegant on the palate, this is a supple, fruity and aromatic Riesling with a generous but refined and balanced texture, fine, mineral acidity and stimulating grip. This 2006 is a classic from a vintage that started beautifully yet turned terrible in almost all German wine regions, especially during the warm and wet October, which caused serious botrytis and forced producers, in what became known as the 2006 Blitzlese, or blitz harvest, to pick as quickly as possible due to the rapid spreading of botrytis. Wagner's 2006 Heerkretz is one of the finest Rieslings I do remember from that vintage, and its aromatic apricot fruit is a beautiful leitmotiv. Picked between October second and 18th, the wine tastes perfectly round, lush and elegant today. It was bottled with 13% stated alcohol under a natural cork. Tasted from magnum at the domaine in late August 2023.
