The 2005 Barahonda Tinto is almost as good. Produced from 100% Monastrell and raised in stainless steel, this dark ruby-colored wine has an attractive nose of forest floor, mineral, and blueberry. It has a supple palate-feel, sweet fruit, and excellent balance but it is just a bit more compact on the mid-palate and shorter on the finish than the Carro. Nevertheless, it is a superb value. The Bellum project, in which Ole Imports is involved, started in 2002. It is dedicated to showing what can be achieved from 100% old-vine Monastrell in the up-and-coming D.O. of Yecla. It goes without saying that the price-to-quality relationship of these wines is extraordinary.Importer: Patrick Mata, Ole Imoprts, New Rochelle, NY; tel. (914) 576-6120
