The 2006 Eclaireur Old Vine Grenache was aged in a mix of new and used French oak for 9 months. It is dark ruby-colored with earthy, garrigue notes, black raspberry, and kirsch. Elegant on the palate, it has plenty of ripe, savory red fruit, good balance, and a long, pure finish. Drink it over the next six years. The Colonial Estate is the Australian project of Englishman and Bordeaux chateau owner Jonathan Maltus. His first vintage in Australia was 2002. The entry level wines are line-priced at $30 offering excellent bang for the buck.Importer: Single Vineyard Imports, www.maltus.com
