After crafting the first "Mise Speciale" of the Meursault Clos du Cromin in 1996, Javillier has returned to his habit of bottling the entire production in the September following the vintage. He believes this wine's terroir does not produce wines with enough natural acidity to withstand long barrel aging. The 1997 was harvested at 12.9% natural alcohol and was not chaptalised. It offers super-ripe white fruit and honeyed aromas that give way to its fat and almost unctuous character. This thick, medium-bodied, and fruit-cake flavored wine is destined to be an early drinker as opulence clearly has the upper hand over balance. Anticipated maturity: now-2002.
