The estate’s 2005 Barolo Bricco Fiasco is a gorgeous, muscular wine made in the sinewy style that is the hallmark of this vineyard in Castiglione Falletto. Ripe fruit, menthol, spices and flowers emerge as this structured, powerful Barolo opens up in the glass. There is a ton of inner sweetness here that just needs a few more years in bottle to show the full breadth of the wine’s sheer beauty. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2023.
Azelia remains one of my favorite under-the-radar producers in Piedmont. Proprietor Luigi Scavino fashions gorgeous wines from his vineyards in Castiglione Falletto and Serralunga.
