There are some great blackcurrant, cassis and cherry flavors in this fine wine, but in the end, the stubborn tannins dominate. They’re tough and gritty, and finish with a stark astringency. The wine will soften in time, but it doesn’t have the stuffing for the long haul. ——S.H.(5/1/2004)—— 88
