Warre's 1920 Vintage Port is slightly deeper in color than the '20 Croft tasted alongside. The nose is warm and inviting, attesting what was a feted declaration, hints of macerated red fruit, espresso and mahogany bureau scents. There is lovely definition and detail here. The palate does not match the promise of the aromatics. Peppery and spicy on the entry, it feels linear and lacking the vigor of the '22 Warre's. It gently fans out toward the finish, although there is a fragility about this Port. The fruit ebbed over the horizon many seasons ago, so that you feel you are tasting a bas-relief of a Port in its prime rather than the actual thing. Still, there was no oxidation and it remains serviceable. Tasted May 2015.
