This was a remarkable showing for a 20-year-old Grenache-based wine (this vintage does contain 35% Shiraz). The 1998 Eclipse still retains a youthful, dark hue and vibrant aromas of dried herbs and spices joined with rich black cherry fruit. It's full-bodied, soft and luscious on the palate, adding nuances of strawberries, chocolate and licorice. It's a tour de force of South Australian winemaking that should remain at this peak for a few more years.
