A blend of 70% Grenache and 30% Syrah, the 2001 Gigondas is excellent. It reveals a nicely textured nose offering aromas of blueberries, raspberries, currants, and crushed stones. There is good acidity, excellent purity, ripeness, and aromatics, but the finish is a trifle austere. Give it 1-2 years of cellaring, and drink it over the following 10-12.
