The big boy of the bunch is Argirio (100% Cabernet Franc) and the two vintages presented here show very different interpretations of the grape. The 2009 Argirio is slightly more subdued and less focused with steady aromas of leather, black cherry and spicy rum cake. The wine preforms beautifully in the mouth. Dense flavors of black fruit and exotic spice spread evenly, and with enormous determination, over the palate. A playful touch of freshly ground black pepper livens up the finish. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2025.
Located near the sleepy village of Palazzone in San Casciano dei Bagni in Siena province, Podernuovo al Palazzone is the new property recently inaugurated by father and son team Paolo and Giovanni Bulgari, heir to the jewelry empire. The 2009 vintage marks this estate-s debut.
Importer: Maisons Marques & Domaines USA; www.mmdusa.net The first two wines are imported to the United States, but the Argirio is not.
