This has been a perplexing wine to evaluate. The color is a murky, dark garnet/plum. The nose exhibits a sweet, old vine essence of cherries and minerals, with some spice and earth in the background. Dense, as well as ferociously tannic and traditionally-styled, the 1994 Beausejour-Duffau may dry out if the fruit fades more quickly than the tannin. It is not a wine to buy by those seeking immediate gratification. Anticipated maturity: 2004-2016.
