The 2010 Aster Finca El Otero is a single-vineyard Tempranillo fermented and aged in oak barrels. It has a flowery, exuberant nose mixing aromas of violets, plums, and blueberries with lactic hints and spices. The palate is medium to full-bodied with sweet tannins, good acidity and balance. It’s a showy, succulent style of Tempranillo with lactic and chocolate hints, without being exaggerated or overwhelming. Drink 2014-2018.
Aster is the Ribera del Duero winery from La Rioja Alta in Haro. They own 95 hectares planted around the winery in the village of Anguix, close to Roa in the province of Burgos. These are the best wines I’ve tasted from them, with better balance and less oak than in the past.
