The balsamic 2015 Callejo Crianza has notes of camphor and mint intermixed with ripe black fruit and plenty of spices, even though the palate is quite integrated and the oak is in the background. There are some gritty tannins and a dry finish. 100,000 bottles produced.

The 2014 Callejo Crianza is a ripe and oaky Tempranillo from the village of Sotillo de la Ribera, aged for one year in French barrels. It has plenty of sweet spices and smoky notes intermixed with plums and black berries and some hints of freshness, orange peel and perhaps flowers in the background. The palate has abundant, dusty tannins and a lot of oak-related flavors. Very good in its oaky style. 90,000 bottles produced.

The 2012 Callejo Crianza is pure Tempranillo from the village of Sotillo de la Ribera, aged for one year in French barrels. Dark-colored and ripe with a nose of plums, black cherries and fine spices, the oak is nicely integrated in the wine. The palate is full-bodied with very good density, ripeness, round tannins and a remarkable finish. 100,000 bottles produced.

The 2011 Crianza is pure Tempranillo aged for one year in French barrels. It has a ripe nose of black fruit and a succulent palate, dense, chewy and ripe, with good intensity and length. Quite pricey for a Crianza, though. Drink now-2016. Felix Callejo was created in 1989, so it’s part of the first wave of modern Ribera del Duero, and nowadays his four siblings work 60 hectares of vineyards. The 2009 Callejo Crianza is from 25-year-old organically cultivated vines aged in the same manner as the Roble over 12 months. It has round, velvety ripe dark plum and blueberry on the nose that displays good intensity. The palate is smooth and rounded with kirsch, licorice, spice and a touch of graphite, while the oak is deftly integrated on the opulent finish.
