The Cascina Chicco 2017 Barolo Rocche di Castelletto is bright and perfumed with a first impact of lilac and rose that leaves a lasting impression. That first layer of floral intensity lifts slowly to reveal a core of red and purple fruits with cassis and plum. The aromas are subtle and soft, creating a big contrast against the wine's mouthfeel that plays up its intensity and tannins in a much more evident and determined manner. The wine will surely benefit from cellar aging, but I'm not sure there is enough fruit to carry it over the long haul.

An attractive mix of rose, cherry, menthol and spice aromas and flavors are the hallmarks of this balanced red, which features a solid foundation of vibrant acidity and dense tannins, plus a lingering aftertaste of cherry, iron, tar and spice.
