The 2010 Marsannay Les Longeroies shows off impeccable minerality and energy. This is a less overly fruit forward style than the Grasses Tetes. Bright red fruit, flowers, mint and crushed rocks stain the palate on the long, focused finish. This is another stunning showing from Bruno Clair. The Longeroies is a great wine for the dinner table. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2020. This is a fabulous set of wines from Bruno Clair and his long-time oenologist Philippe Brun. The harvest started on September 25. Yields were 22-30 hectoliters per hectare, which is to say a good 10% less than 2003, a torrid vintage marked by tiny yields. Clair describes the fruit as healthy, with no botrytis and soft tannins from the late harvest. The 2010s were 100% destemmed. The 2010 Marsannay Les Longeroies is impressive. It boasts considerable depth and sheer concentration in its juicy dark cherries, mint, flowers and graphite. Its vibrancy and energy are pure 2010. Clean veins of minerality frame the long, pure finish. This is a fabulous effort. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2020. Winemaker David Croix describes 2010 as being similar to 2002, but with more tension. The harvest started on September 23. About two-thirds of the wines were lightly chaptalized. None of these wines had been racked at the time of my visit in November 2011. Giroud fans will note the addition of two new Volnays to the lineup. The 2009 Marsannay Les Longeroies is a beautiful wine that impresses for its textured, generous personality. The Longeroies shows gorgeous harmony, generous fruit and a totally inviting personality. Longeroies, Marsannay’s most celebrated vineyard, contains a mixture of clay and limestone. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2019. This is a beautiful set of wines from Bruno Clair. Every wine I tasted with Clair’s longtime oenologist Philippe Brun was gorgeous from top to bottom. While the top 2009s are certainly superb, the real jewels here are the village level wines which appear to be among the great success stories of the 2009 vintage. I tasted all of the wines from barrel, except the Marsannay and Marsannay Les Vaudanelles, both of which were bottled before the 2010 harvest. In 2009 Clair began harvesting on September 15 and ended on the 23rd. I also tasted a handful of 2008s, from a much later harvest that stretched into October.
