This is a very attractive Amarone with a tight and generous core of black fruit flavors. From a slightly cooler growing season, the 2013 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Pegrandi is a blend of 30% Corvina, 30% Corvinone, 30% Rondinella, 5% Oseleta and 5% Raboso Veronese. The grapes complete up to 150 days of appassimento, which is longer than average for the appellation. This pretty, full-bodied wine offers contrasting notes of savory spice (with 16% alcohol) that are pitted against sweet notes of rum cake and blackberry liqueur. Some 8,000 bottles were made.
