The 2021 Rothenberg Riesling Sp?tlese is clear, precise and fresh on the tropical nose that reveals a stony/flinty spiciness intermingled with fine and candied ripe grapefruit aromas. Lush, refined and savory on the palate, this is a delicate but dense and finely concentrated, stimulatingly crispy Sp?tlese with a crystalline/saline finish. 7.5% stated alcohol. Screw-cap closure. Silky in texture, with a little bit of crunchiness, this is well-balanced and vibrant overall, exhibiting passion fruit, vanilla, verbena and mineral aromas and flavors, which unfold in waves over the delicate structure. The 2017 Rothenberg Riesling Sp?tlese opens with a spicy-intense bouquet that reveals ripe and overripe tropical Riesling fruit with some hints of botrytis. Lush and sweet on the palate, this is a somewhat dusty Riesling that doesn't have the brilliant precision and sharpness of a great Sp?tlese. It is sweet and charming yet not really finessed or particular, rather ordinary. 8.5% alcohol. Tasted from AP 15/18 in May 2020.

From predominantly healthy grapes with just a few raisins to raise the body, the 2016 Rothenberg Riesling Sp?tlese is super clear and aromatic on the nose, with perfectly ripe (grape) fruit and slatey aromas. On the palate this is a lush, pure, fresh, finessed, very elegant and highly delicate Sp?tlese with generous and sensual fruit, piquant acidity and lingering minerals. This is another gorgeous Rothenberg that will age for more than two decades. Fermented in stainless steel.
