The 2020 Goliardo Espadeiro shows a lot of finesse and elegance. They started picking the grapes at different times, and the wine has gained in precision. The vines ripen at different times, and they are marked and harvested separately. It has no green notes; its floral and perfumed, with 12.3% alcohol and notable freshness. This could very well be the finest Espadeiro to date. It matured in 500-liter barrels for two years. 600 bottles were filled in January 2023.

Espadeiro is the scarcest of the red grapes from Rías Baixas and produces earthy, floral and peppery wines. The 2019 Goliardo Espadeiro showcases the wines produced with the variety, with notes of moss, moderate alcohol and good acidity. It has a strict and austere palate with abundant fine-grained tannins. This comes from a single 45-year-old vineyard, and it fermented in a combination of stainless steel and oak barrels and matured in a well-seasoned 500-liter oak barrel for one year, the usual modus operandi for reds before they started experimenting with some newer barrels in some reds. 600 bottles were filled in February 2021.

The 2017 Goliardo Espadeiro was produced with vines planted in 1962. It fermented in open-top vat barriques and matured in well-seasoned barrels for one year before bottling. It has an aromatic profile that reminds me of the Bastión de Luna, with some metallic notes, with hits of rusty nail, low tide and blood, some iodine and earth. It has rusticity, some dusty tannins. 800 bottles were filled in April 2019.

The 2016 Goliardo Espadeiro follows the line of the 2015, with less rusticity than previous vintages. All these reds have a common thread that I link to wild berries and herbs, something earthy and also floral. They only produced 600 liters of this wine, which was put into some 700 bottles.

The 2015 Goliardo Espadeiro took some time to take off, as it was a little closed at first and it really expressed the soil in a very intense way. It's sharp and a little young and has very elegant acidity and a finesse that is unusual for Espadeiro. Though it started off a little closed, it didn't stop growing, developing nuances that were not there, like blood orange peel, and, in fact, I couldn't make up my mind as to which one I preferred.... 600 bottles were filled in December 2016.
