Sebaste’s 2008 Barolo Monvigliero opens with an inviting bouquet redolent of flowers, sweet herbs, spices and red berries. The 2008 is a gentle, soft wine layered with subtle red fruit and a long, energetic finish. This understated Barolo should drink nicely for another decade or so, give or take. The 2007 Barolo Monvigliero shows excellent up-front intensity in a forward, juicy style. This needs time in the glass for some of the rough edges to soften, but it is a pretty wine laced with attractive, floral and spice notes. The finish shows plenty of breadth and volume once the wine opens up. Ideally, a little more vineyard character might be nice, but this is a year in which the vintage marked many wines to a significant degree. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2024. This fruity 2006, boasts flavors of cherry, pomegranate and currant, with firm tannins providing structure. Precision balance and a long, resonant aftertaste show the potential.
