The full-bodied, muscular 2018 Cote Rotie La Vialliere is much the same as I remember it based on my previous tasting. Robust black cherry fruit makes a big impression, but even more noteworthy is this wine's power and structure. Rich, velvety and tannic, this is the backbone to Ogier's blend.

Although the bouquet of the 2017 Cote Rotie La Vialliere seemed a bit reserved compared to my recollection of it prior to bottling, this medium to full-bodied effort remains awfully impressive overall. Hints of cedar frame, blackberries and spice are on the nose, while the wine is concentrated and expansive on the palate, with a rich, velvety feel and a long, mouthwatering finish

Along with the other 2016s from Ogier, the 2016 Cote Rotie La Vialliere boasts gorgeous aromas of roses, tea leaves and raspberries. It's full-bodied, plush and velvety on the palate, with a long, cranberry-ish finish that shows great freshness and energy. This offering is attractive now, but I expect it will age gracefully for at least 15 years.

I didn't taste the 2015 Cote Rotie La Vialliere last year, so here's how the wine is looking in 2018: full-bodied, rich and tannic. This puppy needs some serious house-training before it's ready to open; maybe try a bottle in 2025? It's inky in color, chewy in texture and loaded with dark fruit, ending on a long licorice note.

As in 2012 and 2015, Stephane released a boxed set of single vineyards in 2013. The 2013 C?te R?tie Viallière is another wine from Stephan that excels in the vintage. The parcel for this cuvée comes from the upper portion of the Viallière lieu-dit, and it’s almost at the bottom edge of Grandes Places. It has terrific complexity in its black raspberries, smoked blackcurrants and mineral-driven, meaty personality. Medium to full-bodied, silky and elegant, with the higher acidity of the vintage and present tannin, it's not going to hit prime time until around 2023, and should have 10-15 years of prime drinking after that.
