The 2017 Chardonnay Estate is beautifully expressed this vintage, scented of warm citrus, honeycomb and a singular undercurrent of spices. The palate is satiny with full, ripe fruit energized by bright freshness and mineral character, and the wine finishes very long, pure and uplifted. It improved slowly over several days and will benefit from time in the cellar or a long decant. 1,832 cases produced.

The 2016 Chardonnay Estate opens with red pear and apple, spring honey, hay and fresh almonds with hints of orange blossom, lemon pith, stone, toast and white peaches. Medium-bodied with an intense fruit core, it offers lovely earthy/savory hints, with juicy acidity and a long, mineral-tinged finish. 1,176 cases produced.

The 2015 Chardonnay Estate opens with citrusy notes of lemon and lime peel plus petrichor, gunflint, dried hay, green melon, white peach and appealing herbal hints. Medium-bodied, it has a fantastic core of savory, peachy fruit with juicy acidity and loads of mineral notions, finishing long and lively. 1,807 cases produced.

The 2014 Chardonnay Estate from Mount Eden is terrific, offering up a youthful bouquet of buttered apples, pear, toasted nuts and brioche that reveals more and more nuance as it sits in the glass. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, pure and racy, with a satiny attack, deep core and bright acids. The finish is long and mouthwateringly chalky. This is one of the best recent releases of the Estate Chardonnay, and it comes warmly recommended.

The 2013 Chardonnay Estate from Mount Eden is a youthful classic, wafting from the glass with a complex nose of preserved lemon, hazelnut cream and green pear, subtly framed by a discrete application of new oak. On the palate, it's full-bodied, satiny and textural, with excellent concentration and a long finish. The 2013 is more overtly structural and angular at this early stage than the suave 2014, but only time will tell which is ultimately superior.
