The 2009 Barbera d'Alba Pozzo caresses the palate with juicy dark berries, flowers, licorice, new leather and spices. This is a fairly mid-weight, restrained style for a wine that used to be much fatter and oakier. Floral notes add lift and brightness on the delineated, articulate finish. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2017.
Renato Corino's 2008s are highly representative of the vintage. Although the wines don't have the richness or depth they have in riper years, they impress for their vibrancy, length and fabulous overall balance.
