The Saladini Pilastri 2015 Rosso Piceno Superiore Vigna Monteprandone is a classic blend of 70% Montepulciano and 30% Sangiovese. This wine travels in a middle lane, so to speak, showing good balance without too much intensity in any particular direction. You get a steady delivery of black fruit, dried blackberry, spice and cured tobacco leaf. The Sangiovese element adds some earthy tones of button mushroom and dried violets. This wine is aged in barrique for 18 months. Some 30,000 bottles were made.
