From a beautifully balanced vintage, the 2016 Montefalco Rosso is a more accessible and immediate wine, especially when compared to its more austere big brother Sagrantino. The Rosso is a blend of 60% Sangiovese, 25% Merlot and 15% Sagrantino, and these three grapes become three amigos thanks to their many contrasts and shared qualities. The Sangiovese, or the backbone of the wine, delivers freshness and energy, the Merlot adds softness and texture and the Sagrantino pops in enthusiastically with exotic spice and structure. Try it with a turkey burger and sweet potato fries. Production is 100,000 bottles strong.
