Poggio Argentiera has emerged as one the leaders in the Morellino di Scansano appellation on the southern Tuscan coast over the past few years. These wines, quite good for the vintage, will help defend the reputation it has acquired, starting with the 2002 Finisterre, a blend of Syrah and Alicante, less powerful and ripe than in 2001 but still a worthy effort with its expansive nose of blackberries, coconut, and chocolate, and its well concentrated palate which lacks only a bit more roundness and polish, the logical consequence of a cool year. Drink: 2006-2012.
