The 1997 Soave Classico Calvarino is nearly outstanding. It is unquestionably one of the finest Soaves I have tasted. It displays a light straw color, followed by a superb nose of minerals, almond, pear, and citrusy fruit aromas, medium body, excellent purity and freshness, and a long, ripe finish. The wine's rich texture is atypical for Soave (more akin to a white Burgundy or Chardonnay in texture than Soave). Drink this tasty, multidimensional offering over the next 12-18 months.
