The 2005 Soave Classico Superiore Calvarino (70% Garganega, 30% Trebbiano) is sweet and layered in its expression of citrus peel, apricots, minerals and jasmine. It offers notable purity and gorgeous depth. Anticipated maturity: 2007-2009. Pieropan is one of the historic producers in the Soave region. From its pristine cellar the estate releases benchmark wines for the appellation. While I generally prefer Soave on the younger side, Pieropan’s wines have also proven to age gracefully.
