As I had initially tasted this wine very soon after bottling, I re-tasted it again recently to give it another chance to improve with a little time in bottle. Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2013 Puritan Shiraz is certified organic with no added preservatives. On the nose it shows notes of burnt rubber to begin, then gives way with swirling to an appealing core of fresh blackberries and blueberries with a hint of black earth. Medium to full-bodied with a nice vibrancy of freshly crushed berry flavors in the mouth, it has a low level of rounded tannins and lively acid before it finishes with good length. With the benefit of a little air, it offers a good example of a well-made, no added sulfur wine. Drink it now to 2016.
