The 2007 Pinot Noir Premier Cuvee represents about half of the winery’s total production and contains wine from each of the 5 single vineyards. It spent 10 months in 50% new French oak. Medium to dark ruby-colored, it exhibits a spicy bouquet of cinnamon, allspice, and rose petals. This leads to a medium-bodied wine with attractive, sweet cherry and raspberry flavors but with a slight hole in the mid-palate. The wine has a firm, moderately lengthy finish. It should drink well over the next 3-4 years.
Archery Summit is best known for its vineyard-designated Pinot Noirs. However, the winery produces a small quantity of one of the finest Pinot Gris’ of the Willamette. Anna Matzinger, Archery Summit’s winemaker, describes her 2007s as “nervy and vivacious”, a fair characterization. Valley.
