Given the fact that this estate has a tendency to do too much processing at bottling, this score could drop, but let's hope common sense prevails, and there is a hands off policy at bottling. There is a lot to like in this wine. The 1998 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Prestige displays both outstanding potential and undeniable hedonistic appeal. I would beg the proprietors not to fine or filter this wine unless it becomes unstable. Dark plum-colored, with a sweet, jammy fruit cake/black cherry and cedary nose that jumps from the glass, this full-bodied effort possesses layers of glycerin and richness, low acidity, high alcohol, and a lusty, hedonistic finish. It should prove to be a gorgeous, expansively-flavored wine that may be the finest Chateauneuf du Pape produced at this estate since 1961 - if it is not stripped at bottling. Anticipated maturity: 2001-2015.An Alain Corcia Selection, various American importers, including Charmer Industries, NY; tel. (718) 726-2500, Southern Wine and Spirits, CA; tel.
