The 2005 Carmignano Il Sasso is 70% Sangiovese, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Merlot harvested late. The wine underwent malolactic fermentation in French oak, where it spent 12 months prior to being bottled. This inky-colored, full-throttled Carmignano is packed with jammy dark blueberries, tar, smoke and licorice. The wine possesses terrific intensity and a long, lingering finish. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2017.
This is a strong set of new releases from proprietor Mauro Vannucci and consulting oenologist Attilio Pagli.
